Serving the pilgrims of Our Lady since 1972
Where the sea meets Our Lady of Good Health, all are welcomed.
Annai Vailankanni Shrine Basilica stands on the shore at Besant Nagar, Chennai — a house of prayer for Our Lady of Good Health and a home for nearly a million pilgrims each year.
A faith larger than its roof
It began with a thatched shed — a little shade against the salt wind — and a faith far larger than its roof. Now the waves keep time with the prayers, and nearly a million hearts find their way here each year. They come as fishermen and pilgrims, as mothers and students, and as those who have no words left. They arrive carrying sorrow, and many leave carrying peace.

Open every day of the year
Holy Mass is offered in Tamil and English every day, with Confession through the morning and evening and the Adoration Chapel open from 7.15 am to 8.30 pm. Every hour the ‘Ave Maria’ rings out over Besant Nagar to remind the city that she is near.
